This song is inspired by the story of the “meddling wife” of the Roman Republic, Fulvia. Fulvia is often only regarded in history in respect to her husbands but Fulvia was politically engaged in her own right, to the public disdain of Cicero, and became the first non-mythological woman to be depicted and subsequently immortalised on Roman coins. Cicero was killed, and the story goes that Fulvia publicly delighted in this event, piercing the tongue of a (now deceased) man who used his powerful voice against her.
