The original fighter-mother, the Drover’s Wife of Henry Lawson’s famous short story has been acknowledged here, with Lawson’s words reshaped to reflect a woman’s perspective. This retelling, although fictional, is in honour of the many strong fighter-mothers and Drover’s wives that I myself (Madeleine) am descended from.
